Adding to the New Year
Posted by Lori Brown on Friday, January 27, 2012
Many of us began the New Year with the idea of quitting a habit or denying ourselves something in hopes of making a change. Some of us decided to give up soda, meat, cigarettes, sugar, alcohol or TV. It doesn't matter what the "thing" is that we are giving up, it's difficult because it more than likely has become a "non-negotiable" in your life!
By the end of January, you may be wanting a little of that something that you gave up. Well, guess what? If you have a little, you are going to want more.
So, what is the answer? We have discussed being worthy for change, taking small steps and creating non-negotiables in your life. Now, we are going to discuss adding something rather than taking away.
For example, if you are trying to give up soda I might ask you to drink a large glass of water first. Then, ask yourself if you still want the soda. If the answer is "yes", then at least you hydrated your body with something healthy first.
What are some other things that you can add to your life that will begin to make a change? Take a walk every day, add a salad to your dinner, drink 8 glasses of water each day or jump rope for one minute. If you begin to add healthy choices to your day, you will begin to feel better. You won't want dessert everyday and you will start to think twice before eating the entire bag of chips!
Remember small changes make a big difference.
Peace & Gratitude
