Class, Dryer and Box Tape
What does taking a class via teleconference, a dryer and a roll of box tape have in common?
Let me take you on a journey through my Monday morning and you will find out!
My morning began with one happy daughter who went to school, one daughter who woke up sick and stayed home and one daughter who had to be bribed, coerced and finally driven to school.
Are you still with me? Okay, good. So, I take my positive psychology coaching class on Monday morning at 10:00 am. That is just enough time to clear the breakfast dishes, take a shower, start the laundry and look all over the house for my headset.
I found the headset just in time, gave strict instructions for my sick teen not to throw up or bother me in any way, shape, or form during the next hour, shut my bedroom door and called into my class.
At about 10:30, as the class was in full swing I began to hear a “thud…thud…thud”. It sounded like there was a shoe in the dryer! “Thud…thud…thud.” “Could you repeat that definition?” “Thud…thud…thud.” I couldn’t possibly concentrate with that noise so I muted my phone and went to investigate the noisy dryer. It was not a stray shoe. My dryer was falling apart! One of the three blades inside the dryer, the thing that makes the clothes go around, was partially falling off. One screw was missing and one was attached enough that it could not be removed.
“Could you repeat the last pathway to happiness?”
The only way to fix the dryer at this point is to take the dryer apart, pull out the drum and put the screws back in. I know what you are thinking, “why am I even looking at the dryer while I am taking a class over the phone”! Looking back on it now, it seems irrational, but I had A LOT of laundry and I am good at multitasking! I had to put in a temporary fix! So, I went to the drawer where we keep mass quantities of colorful, durable tape. The only tape available was box tape. Beside the drawer lay a purse, backpack and wallet. They were all made of colorful, durable tape!
While still on mute, I began taping the blade to the inside drum of the dryer.
Silence
I had dropped the call. Apparently, there is no cell reception inside my dryer!
I started the dryer and returned to my call just in time for a discussion on gratitude.
I am not sure if I am on one of the pathways to happiness, but I do know I am grateful that my laundry is done and that there is a recording of my class to review!
