Gratitude: Small Things That Make a Big Difference
This is my third installment on Gratitude and some of you may be saying, "I just don't have time to journal or meditate on what I am thankful for." Well, keep reading because this is the blog for you!
Today, we are going to be discussing small things that can make a big difference in your life. The most important thing about gratitude is remembering to be grateful. Most people just get so busy with their lives that they don't remember to take the time to be grateful.
The first tip to increase your gratitude this season, is to stick a few notes around your home, your office, in your car or perhaps on your child's forehead! The purpose of this exercise is to remind you to take a moment and be grateful when you see the friendly reminder.
The second tip to increase your gratitude is to schedule a gratitude break in your calendar. Block out 5-10 minutes out of your work day to think about the things that happened during the day that you are grateful for. You may be having a terrible day, but breaking things down into smaller pieces and looking at them from a different perspective can make a huge difference in seeing a positive side. Give it a try and I think you will be amazed at what you find.
The third tip is to set an alarm on your phone. The sound of this alarm is an auditory reminder to take a moment and be grateful for your health, your family, the air you breathe, your co-worker or your boss being on vacation ! :) You get the idea. There is always something to be grateful for.
My FAVORITE and final tip to finding gratitude this season is wearing gratitude bracelets. This is something I began doing in early September and it has made a HUGE impact on me and those around me. It is a visual and, depending on the kind of bracelets you choose to wear, auditory reminder to be grateful. The idea is to wear ten bracelets on one wrist. Each time you find something to be grateful for you move one bracelet to the other wrist. When I wear these people always ask about them and it acts as accountability as well. I was actually at a sporting event and was showing my "ingratitude" when a parent told me I should move a bracelet back! If that doesn't keep you gracious, grateful and on your toes I truly don't know what will!
Thanksgiving is quickly approaching and I suggest you get those bangles on before you sit down to dinner with your loving family.
Tune in next week for my final blog on Gratitude. I will be discussing tips for showing gratitude around the Thanksgiving table.
