Snow Day

Everyone loves a snow day! Even I thrill at the sound of the text message at 4:30am indicating the school closure. My children are all up at 7:30am because they are so excited, even my teenagers! Mind you I couldn't pry their bodies out of bed the day before at that hour! Then the phone begins to ring at 8:00. Doesn't everyone know it is a snow day and we(as in me) are trying to sleep in? By 8:30 all three of my daughters are arguing about what to eat for breakfast, whose socks are on the floor, what movie we could all go see, which friends should come over and why they shouldn't have to clean their room on a snow day!
It was at that moment that I went storming down the hall and explained that we were all going to be happy whether they liked it or not and I knew just how we were going to begin this adventure.
I am beginning a new chapter in my life on February 14th; I am going back to school. Yes, I am forty, deciding what I want to be when I grow up, and I am taking my entire family on this journey! I am going back to school to be a life coach with an emphasis on positive psychology. Basically, I want to help people live up to their potential and have happier lives. My husband, Andy, thinks it sounds,"frou frou and touchy feely" (i.e. anything that is not in the engineering field). I would like to add that he has not been able to "engineer" happiness in our home, but I digress.
So, on Monday, I will begin taking classes and my family has "volunteered" to be my guinea pigs throughout this process. My hope is that together we can grow into a happier, more productive family that can withstand another snow day!
