What is Growing Happiness?

I have had many people ask me what "Growing Happiness" means and why I chose this name. For me, Growing Happiness is about our journey. It's about finding joy and meaning in our lives. It's about finding passion. I don't look at happiness as a goal that can be achieved. I look at happiness as something that we cultivate over time. Most of us want it now! We live in a society that has taught us to expect immediate gratification. We all believe the next phone, car, house, job is going to be the thing that makes us happy. Happiness is not the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow that we are all trying to grasp. It's about being appreciative and grateful for moments of happiness, but what I am really trying to achieve with "growing happiness" is that space where I find peace and joy. As I said in an earlier blog, I want us to live in a "state" of gratitude. This is what I want for my family. I don't want my girls, my husband or myself to get wrapped around the axle about EVERYTHING! I want us to learn to go with the flow more and try and see the good things even when something hasn't gone our way. Growing Happiness is about finding that place within, that spark that colors everything you do. It's that "thing" that allows you to breathe deeply and find an alternative, to find the silver lining.
My business of life coaching is exactly this. It's a journey of introspection, discovering where you are now. Who are you? Who do you want to be? What do you want to do better? It's important to ask these questions and to contemplate your goals. Sometimes, we don't know where we are or where to start, but we know in 5 years where we would like to be. Then we work our way backward until we figure out our first step. Other times, we don't know where we want to be in 5 years. We just know we don't want to still be here. Then we take the approach of clearing the clutter; the physical and the mental. We begin to remove the obstacles in order to just see.
